Afternoon Tea at The Peninsula Shanghai is a most pleasant affair, paying homage to traditions and the true ritual that is the quintessential high tea experience.
The Peninsula’s grand Lobby is an idyllic setting for the daily occasion with its stunning Art Deco inspired features and sophisticated palette of ivory, gold and pale greens.
You will find all of the usual suspects on the menu, from freshly baked scones with clotted cream and homemade jams, to finger sandwiches and delectable array of sweet offerings. Their set menus for two are an excellent way to sample a bit of everything.
We chose the “Naturally set for two”, a medley of sweet and savoury delights designed for the more health conscious. The three tier affair began with savoury creations on the lower tier, including a refreshing olive oil poached salmon rice paper roll and a smoky eggplant tart infused with piquillo peppers.
The middle layer presented miniature lemon olive oil cakes, healthy granola bars packed with nuts and cranberries, and a quartet of wholewheat scones highly recommended with the hotels’ signature lemon curd, strawberry jam and clotted cream.
The highest tier housed an assortment of desserts, from a Green Tea Gatueau, Manuka honey and banana domes, to decadent chocolate brownies.
And what would a high tea experience be without the main character of the show — the tea itself. Served in exquisite silverware, our selection of The Peninsula’s signature Afternoon blend made the perfect accompaniment to our delicious treats.
With elegant musical compositions wafting down from a live string orchestra on the balconiette above, high tea at The Peninsula is a wonderful place to unwind and let the afternoon hours flow by with good food, conversation and tea.
