BLACK—The absence of light; the ultimate colourless beauty—has for centuries been the inspiration for many great artists, designers, poets, and musicians.
New York creative production company MATTE’s latest event BLACK pays homage to a lifestyle and the great city of New York. Embracing the borders of culture in music, art, and fashion, BLACK will feature live performances from Matthew Dear, The Virgins, The Rapture DJs, and Jim-E Stack as well as custom art installations by Charlie Nesi, Young & Sick, and Joel Walker. The historic Bowery Bank Building will be enveloped and trandformed in a mystical celebration of creativity in the absence of light.
The accompanying promo video, directed by Trevor Owsley and Jason Naylor is a sneak peek of what’s to come. “As bodies become darker and darker we become aware that we are losing light while simultaneously being buried with black,” says Naylor about the concept behind the video. “Still unsure of what’s going one, we indulge in black and fade away,” he continues. “Our eyes are open. We are alive.”
