Converging the worlds of fashion, art, culture, and luxury, Paola Russo’s boutique Just One Eye breaks away from the standard L.A. retail mould, bringing a fresh approach to the retail experience.
Housed in Howard Hughes former art deco headquarters, the highly curated store offers a mix of well-known brands like Valentino, Rodarte, Paco Rabanne and Anthony Vaccarellos to smaller labels such as Christophe Lemaire, Yiqing Qin, and quirky accessories by Olympia Le-Tan. Vintage jewelry as well as new pieces by Wilfredo Rosado and local jewellery line Hoorsenbuhs provide plenty of glimmering eye candy.
For the men, a mix of the familiar—Kris Van Assche, Costume National, Yohji Yamamoto—share the racks with new discoveries—cashmere knits from Vancouver-based designer Raif Adelberg and French leather line Séraphin.
An eclectic and rare collection of furniture and art also adorns the space, from Ron Arad’s Fauteuil ‘Sit’, Carlo Bugatti’s throne chair to the life-sized Nurse KO sculpture by Takashi Murakami’s Nurse, Pop-Art rhinos by sculptor Victor Douieb, and prints by the likes of Marilyn Minter and Daido Moriyama.
In addition, high profile partnerships like the Damien Hirst x The Row’s black patent leather Nile crocodile backpacks and limited-edition Nate Lowman Converse sneakers reflect Russo’s ideology for “more collaborating, sharing, and giving.”
LA is shaking off its age-old image of being a city that’s just glitz and fame, cementing itself as an important fashion destination in its own right. As Russo perfectly sums up “We’d love to create a new LA fashion movement. There’s a fashion here that is unique.”
